Meik Wiking is the CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen. Denmark is the happiest nation in the world and Meik attributes most of this, to living the Hygge (pronounced Hoogah) way.
The Danish word Hygge is one of those words that doesn’t directly translate into English and is more of a feeling – a feeling of cozy, warmth or togetherness. It is the feeling you have when you are cuddled up on the couch with a loved one, in warm knitted socks, in front of the fire, when it is dark, cold and stormy outside. Sharing good, comfort food with your closest friends (3-4 is perfect) which everyone has prepared together, exchanging easy conversation.
In this beautifully presented and inspiring book, Meik will give you practical steps and tips on how to practice and be more Hygge: from picking the right lighting, planning a dinner party and how to dress more Hygge.
This year live more like a Dane, embrace Hygge and become happier.
I loved this book! I’ve been a bit slow on this review – I read around Christmas time (very Hygge) which was perfect. It’s a very cute book describing the meaning of Hygge, what it is, how to achieve it and it how it improves your happiness. The easiest way to describe maybe is that cozy feeling you have when you are in your PJs in front of the fire reading a book. Or drinking a hot chocolate in your favourite chair by the window when it is raining. With the fire lit. Or just eating cake with some friends J It ticked a lot of boxes for me…
Most of the book is describing Hygge and to achieve/experience it. There are recipes, illustrations for you to follow and the book itself is beautiful.
This year I’ll be embracing Hygge especially since relaxing with a good book is another perfect way to find your inner Hygge!
A storm is raging! Get comfy, put your slippers on, sit in your favourite chair…
